This slide show is a recording of Lied in B Major for Organ Op. 15 from Eight Pieces for Organ Op. 10-17 by Steven Monrotus.
Dedicated to the memory of the composer's brother who died in infancy, this tender cradle song (pronounced "leed" in German) is a 4-voice lullaby in AABA song form with an animated middle section
in trio texture which repeats the A theme by alternating it between the hands. The highly truncated B section consists of a mere single line which outlines the inversion of the A theme slowly in a mood suggestive of sorrow. Its poignant A theme
then returns and finishes very quietly and peacefully in a manner which lends itself to the observance of Christmas and the birth of the Christ Child.
